To celebrate the Wedding of William and Kate, we've got a special Royal edition of the e-mail news.

Almost half the UK population is related to a British King or Queen - are you one of them? Our records at TheGenealogist and Genealogy Supplies can help you make that link. These include Visitations, peerage records, and much more.

We have just released a new set of records, Blood Royal of Britain. These records were compiled by the Marquis of Ruvigny and Raineval, and give a complete table of all the living descendants of Edward III, Edward IV, Henry VII and James III. Each book contains both illustrative trees and descendancy notes.

We also have another great offer for you; to make use of all the new royal records we have added, we are offering £35 off an annual Diamond subscription if you sign up before the 14th of May, using the discount code ENROYAL. This makes the subscription only £114.45

Throughout May, you can also save 20% on our selection of peerage and gentry CDs at GenealogySupplies.com - simply enter the discount code 'ENROYAL' at the basket.

We have two articles - one focuses on an ancestor shared by William and Kate, while the other looks at how the Victorian media covered Royal weddings, with extracts from the Illustrated London News.

Visitations

Heraldic Visitations began in 1530 and were tours of inspection undertaken by Kings of Arms in order to regulate and register the coats of arms of nobility and gentry and boroughs, and to record pedigrees.

By the fifteenth century many families were adopting coats of arms as symbols of wealth and power but not all had a legitimate claim to them. As surviving Visitation records include pedigrees and often the evidence that was used to prove these, including family details, background and ages, their records provide important source material for genealogists.

How Royal Do You Think You Are?

It’s easy to assume that Peerage and Heritage records are irrelevant to your genealogical research, but in fact almost half the UK population have Royal blood, which means that you may well have Dukes, Lords or other members of the nobility in your family tree.

Sir Thomas Fairfax was married to Agnes Gascoigne, grand-daughter of Henry Percy Earl of Northumberland, a direct descendent of Edward III. He had twin sons named Nicholas and William.  As the eldest, Nicholas inherited his father’s estate, including Gilling Castle in Yorkshire, and is an ancestor of Lady Diana Spencer and her son Prince William.  The younger twin William Fairfax is the direct ancestor of William’s bride-to-be Kate Middleton.
