Dear Family Historian,
It's an exciting time at S&N, we have come back from WDYTYA?
Live! at Olympia with a lot of positive feedback from TheGenealogist users and how
they love the new interface. With all the improvements now
live
on the site we welcome anyone who has tried us before to try us
again, we're sure you'll be pleasantly surprised.
We have a very
special offer on our Diamond subscriptions at TheGenealogist this month, to
celebrate the completion of the 1911 Census, and have released a number of
new records including a huge amount of parish
records, and some court and directory records too.
Our article this month looks at one of the most widely read
authors in the UK, and her real life story from tough knocks to
becoming a literary success.
We are also celebrating the 20th anniversary of our family
business, S&N. Learn how the business started here. To
celebrate, we've added a large number of new releases,
special offers, and bargain items
as well as having a huge discount
on Diamond Subscriptions to TheGenealogist.

We have now completed our 1911 Census Transcripts, with over 36 million
records. These records have been integrated into our new
Master Search, and into our existing tools, such as our marriage finder tool.
To celebrate this release, sign up to our Diamond subscription today and get £50 off!
We are also adding unredacted images to our website. These
images show the 'Infirmity' column, which were previously omitted due to a 100-year
privacy policy.
The following image shows William Ansell with "Spinal cord injured 1902
through accident on drain work, slipped when getting down manole".

New Master Search at
We have released a new Master Search at TheGenealogist.co.uk, making all our
records easily accessible at the click of a button.
This comprehensive search tool allows you to use one simple form to
search across all of our millions of records, including Parish Records, Wills,
Newspapers, Census, Non-Conformist Registers, and much more.
The simple to use interface allows you to search for a person, family, or an
address, all from within the same tool.
Graham Walter from the Society of Genealogists' Census Detectives was very impressed with
how easy and comprehensive the new interface is and had a lot of very happy enquirers
from their section.
It now gives you one simple tool to find information in any of the resources on the site.
We’ll admit you had to be a bit of an expert to drive the old system but now the
new interface makes it a doddle to search for people, families or addresses.
With all these improvements now live on the site we welcome anyone who has tried us
before to try us
again, we're sure you'll be pleasantly surprised.
An easy to follow guide for the new interface is available here: http://www.thegenealogist.co.uk/researchguide/?cid=1&p=75#295

Who Do You Think You Are? Live!
The three-day event at Olympia was a huge success this year, with thousands of
visitors through the doors. Our talks were very popular, with people surrounding our
lecture theatre to hear what our speakers had to say. We may have to enlarge our theatre
next year to cope with the crowds!
As well as his popular talks, Mark Bayley presented the prizes for the
Federation of Family History Societies' competitions.
The two winners for Young Genealogist of the Year competition
received a laptop, a 1-year Diamond subscription to TheGenealogist, and a copy of
RootsMagic 5 UK Platinum Edition.
Matthew Abel, Young Genealogist of the Year |
Eleanor Parkyn, Young Genealogist of the Year |
The 2011 story writing competition, 'Who is the most interesting person in your
family tree?', saw Christine Pavett in second place.
She was presented with a 1-year Diamond subscription to TheGenealogist.co.uk and a copy
of RootsMagic 5 UK Platinum Edition.
