Master search updated

Our master census transcript and BMD search facility for all-inclusive subscribers has been updated with all the latest data so it is well worth trying to find anyone you have not found in the past.

We intend to update this on a regular basis.

Library/society subscription launched

We are always trying to improve the products and services we offer. We are often asked by family history societies and other institutions if we have a subscription to suit them. So, a new Library Subscription has been developed to meet their needs!

This service enables libraries, societies, and so one, to introduce the extensive BMD, Census and Parish Record research facilities to ALL their existing members. This may entice new members into joining which could form additional income to their organisation. The subscription can be used by any members provided they only use it on the one computer at the organisation’s designated venue. It is up to the organisation itself to decide whether it wishes to make a charge for offering this service to its members. It could prove an excellent source of revenue.

It provides access to all included databases on an ongoing basis for one P.C./User. Subscriptions can be bought using credit card, cheque or with government Purchase Orders. Unused credits can be carried over to the following year and extra credits can be purchased if required!

The Library Subscription provides three different types of subscription to suit your organisation’s needs:

The Library Plus subscriptions cost just £240 p.a. for 4,000 credits p.a. or £500 p.a. for 10,000 credits p.a. Both can be topped up at any time.

The Library Premium subscription is credit-free and costs £1,995 p.a.

PARISH RECORDS

Parish Records have proved a popular area to research. These can take you back prior to the BMD records of 1837. Baptisms, Marriages, Marriage Banns and Burials allow you to find the earliest roots of your family. The main problem is finding the relevant entries in thousands of metres of microfilm.

If you are lucky, you might find an index and this will help you locate an entry. Societies vary in how much is indexed on CD or on microfiche; the latter is finally in decline.

S&N first started out in this area by putting onto CD the vast number of transcript books published by W.P.Phillimore.

Phillimore, born William Phillimore Watts Stiff, was the son of Dr Stiff, a Nottingham Doctor. He later took the name Phillimore from the family of his grandmother. He became an Oxford-educated lawyer, founding a British and Scottish Record Society along with the Canterbury and York Society. After he resigned from these societies, he turned his attention to his native country, beginning the transcription and printing of marriage registers. When he died in 1914, he had covered 1,200 parishes from different counties in 200 volumes.

We have made these transcripts available as searchable online indexes linked to the relevant page image from the book.

Transcription

The transcription of original records from microfilm and microfiche means that we can offer you registers that you would normally have to visit a record office for.

Although the project is in its early days we have put up a sample for Netherhampton in Wiltshire as part of our All-Inclusive subscription. This will be shortly followed by many other registers from different counties.

We have developed an ‘Advanced Search’ so you will be also be able to search on additional fields such as marriage witnesses (often they can be members of the family).

For more information on parish registers visit www.parishregister.co.uk

To gain access to Parish records join www.TheGenealogist.co.uk

For those having access to them through the All-Inclusive Premium subscriptions on The Genealogist you can help us develop this project. If you wish to see certain features or have helpful suggestions just add your comments to the forum.
