1901 Indexes and Transcripts for the All-Inclusive

We have had the 1901 as a paid for fee from the TNA service which has limited our ability to make it available to everyone. This service is a Pay-As-You-Go service and is also on www.RootsUK.com

It’s always our aim to provide what you, our customers want, so we have been looking at what we can do.

Well obviously our All-Inclusive subscribers want us to provide this as part of the subscription and so to this end we have started transcription of London and Lancashire with the rest to follow as quickly as is possible.

We have a policy of re-investing the money from subscriptions back into the transcription of new material.

A number of partial volunteer indexes are already included as part of the All-Inclusive subscription.

COMPLETE 1851 Census Images for England

We have linked the original census page to each transcript record, for all English counties in 1851.

Simply complete a search on the county of your choice and when the transcription appears, click on the image of a census page at the end of the record.

Also, Census Transcripts and Indexes have been completed for the following counties; Flintshire 1841, Flintshire and Pembrokeshire for 1851, Warwickshire 1861 and Gloucestershire and Merionethshire for 1891.

Tracing your ancestors between census Years

If you’re trying to track your ancestors down between census years or if you haven’t got an address to search for in the census, directories can prove an invaluable aid.

Directories vary in the level of detail they have and even in the coverage of everyday folk. The rule tends to be that the later the Directory the more people that are included and the better are the facilities.

After 1850 directories became more detailed, they often include street by street listings which in some cases even give occupation. The Watkins directory for London is one such case.

Directories can also contain maps if they have survived the passage of time. They often get removed or simply fall out and are lost. If you are lucky they may also contain street maps for a major city.

Apart from your ancestors names they are also an invaluable source of information regarding the local trades, farming, architecture and history. They normally start the section for an area with lots of background information.

The later Kelly’s Directories are often called Post Office Directories and become much more substantial. We have digitised a large number of these covering London in particular. These contain detailed street listings as well as the normal residential and trade sections.
