This is the definitive two-volume publication, described in the frontispiece as "A Complete Record from the Earliest Time [1127] to the Present Day [1904] of the Knights of all the Orders of Chivalry in England, Scotland, and Ireland, and of Knights Batchelors." You can search for names or other words, and can then view the page on which they were found. You can also move five pages forwards or backwards through the book from the page you are shown. (You will find it in the 'Specialist indexes' section). [13 Oct 2005] Three more 1851 census name-indexes Today we have added the current state of the Berkshire, Essex and Durham 1851 census name-indexing project. [12 Oct 2005] London 1871 complete census transcript - now with images The London 1871 complete transcript now has linked online images of the original census pages. The transcript includes linked online images of the original census pages. [10 Oct 2005] New Search Features We are adding two useful search features to as many of our indexes and transcripts as possible:
Name Variants Use this option to search for different spellings of a name. For example, Bailey and Bayley. This technique uses the phonetical sound of the word to find similar sounding matches.
Nicknames Use this option to search for nicknames which may have been used instead of the standard name - for example Betty, Betsy, Beth or Liz for Elizabeth.
Indexes which have these features will show a checkbox alongside the appropriate name entry fields so you can include them if you wish. [7 Oct 2005] Three new complete census name-indexes added Today we have added the complete Buckinghamshire 1851, Hertfordshire 1851 and Yorkshire 1841 census name-indexes. [6 Oct 2005] Another 1841 Census Name-index completed Today we have added the complete Middlesex 1841 census name-index. [26 Sep 2005] Two New 1841 Census Name-indexes Today we have added the current state of the Essex 1841 and Kent 1841 census name-index project. [19 Sep 2005] 1851 Census Transcripts added The current state of our project for Lancashire 1851 and Yorkshire 1851 census transcripts has been added. |

POLL BOOKS – FINDING THAT MISSING ANCESTOR www.GenealogySupplies.comPoll Books were authorised by an Act of Parliament of 1696 and were published until 1871. They are an early form of electoral register and are useful for finding a person before civil registration (1837) and the census. They list individuals who voted in elections and identify the candidate for whom they voted. The details supplied and the layouts of poll books vary from election to election. The details they can provide include:
Eligibility to vote depended on local custom and the value of the property they owned. In 1867 they extended eligibility to all householders that had been in residence for more than a year and those lodgers that paid £10 or more per annum. Here is a list of Poll Books we have available:
