In this issue's Article from the Archives, we look at pirate ancestry and mariner wills. Piracy was actively supported by the Government during times of warfare to disrupt enemy trade routes, but the pirates were uncontrollable, targeting the Royal Navy and other British ships. The most notorious pirate of all time is Blackbeard, who is recorded as Captain Edward Teach in some records, however other sources also refer to the names Thatch and Drummond. It's possible that he may have used all of these names to avoid being caught by the Government.
