First published in 1860 this book is probably one of the most informative written on the subject. The Priory of St. Peter and St Paul was founded as an Augustine establishment circa 1115 by William Gyffarde the Bishop of Winchester and has had a rich history which this excellent book describes fully. An excellent addition to the collection of anyone with an interest in the history of Taunton.
In Brushford in 1274 there is an entry for Robto de Sidernefemie which is the earliest mention that the author has, so far, found of the family name. This is a masterly book which traces the history of the family in West Somerset and various instances are recorded, with the main family being recorded back to circa 1500.
