The title of this book is somewhat misleading in that it does not refer to memorials in the accepted way but is a collection of articles relating to various people, places and historic events taking place in Devon. A really interesting and instructive book for those with an interest in the county of Devon.
First published in 1860 this book is probably one of the most informative written on the subject. The Priory of St. Peter and St Paul was founded as an Augustine establishment circa 1115 by William Gyffarde the Bishop of Winchester and has had a rich history which this excellent book describes fully. An excellent addition to the collection of anyone with an interest in the history of Taunton.
In Brushford in 1274 there is an entry for Robto de Sidernefemie which is the earliest mention that the author has, so far, found of the family name.
