"Unknown error" when importing earlier FTM files.

Can I import my old data from previous versions? (FTM 2006 and previous)

Yes, but it must be from version 5 or newer, and in one of the following formats:
.FTW
.FBK
GEDCOM 5.5 (not earlier)

Can I import my old data from previous versions? (FTM 2008 and onwards)

Yes, as long as it is in one of the following formats:
.FTM
.FTMB

Error: "GEDCOM must be version 5.5 or greater"

Family Tree Maker does not appear to support GEDCOM 5.5.1. To fix this problem, please do the following:

1 - Right-click on the GEDCOM file and select "Open with" - "Notepad" (or select "Edit")
2 - Change the line "2 VERS 5.5.1" to "2 VERS 5.5"
3 - Save and Close the file

You should now be able to import the file into Family Tree Maker.

Error: "No internet connection"

FTM 2010 install freezes on Arc-De-Triumph on Windows 7 machines (or similar installation problems, mostly reported on Windows 64-bit systems)

This problem is usually solved by downloading and installing the latest patch. Click here to download the latest patch.

FTM crashes while printing or exporting a chart/report.

There is a problem with the HP printer drivers that are causing this issue. You can click here for a detailed guide on how to resolve this problem.

Installation error: Invalid Win32 application

This error can be caused by data transfer errors between the CD drive and the PC when installing large files.

To solve this issue copy the contents of the CD to your PC and run the installer from there. Once installed you can remove the files.

Problem connecting to Registration server or any other FTM online service problems.

Problems installing the latest FTM 2014 Update (RT patch error)

If you encounter a problem downloading the latest patch (usually an "RT patch error" appears), you can download and install the patch manually which should solve the problem.

First, make sure Family Tree Maker 2014 is closed. Then go to the Family Tree Maker help pages at:
http://help.ancestry.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5588/#res2

Follow the instructions for the manual installation - start at step 2 and download the patch (I'd recommend downloading the .exe file).

After it has downloaded, run the .exe file, and this should take you through the installation process for the patch. Once installed you should be able to start the program.

Why are my marriage notes missing when I convert a database from FTMv16?

When converting from FTM 16, marriage notes are converted and placed in the Relationship Notes field associated with Relationships, not in the Marriage Notes field associated with Facts.

1 - Click the "Person" tab
2 - Click the "Relationship" button
3 - In the right panel click "Note"
